Maintaining that attitude everyday will make you a superhero in the making no matter where you start from.
5 daily habits for better health
1. Lower your carb intake and skip processed foods
Let’s just make one thing clear. You will ALWAYS be a result of what goes into your body. No matter how much you like french fries or greasy donuts there is no way around this. The cleaner you eat, the better you'll feel. It’s just the law of nature and you don’t want to fight against nature, you’ll be a looser 100% of the time. If you regularly eat sugar, additives and crappy carbs your body will be crappy as well.
This doesn’t mean you need to cut all the carbs from your diet and follow a ketogenic diet if that's not for you but you need to be picky on which carbs you allow to enter your body.
What carbs to choose?
There are three types of carbohydrates sugar, starch and fiber. Sugar as you probably know is found in sweetened food, cakes and candy, starch is the main carbohydrate in our food and is found in foods like bread, rice, pasta and potatoes and fiber is found in vegetables, legumes, fruit and whole grains. When you’re choosing carbs, fiber rich foods are your best choice and try to avoid sugar and starch.
The reason behind this is that sugar and starch have the exact same effect on your body because both are converted into glucose when they enter your digestive system. It’s very easy to get large amounts of glucose when you eat sugar and starchy foods and the glucose the body don’t use for energy gets stored as fat on your body. Too much glucose also spikes your blood sugar levels and feeds inflammation which is a big caus of disease and other health issues. Fiber on the other hand is not digested in the body and therefore not broken down into glucose. And the amount of sugar and starch in greens, legumes and vegetables is so small that it’s difficult to get so much glucose that anything would be left to store as fat on your body.
2. Meditate regularly
Get control of your breathing, calm your mind and clear your thoughts from stress and negativity and bring love and gratitude into your life. It’s without a doubt our number one tool for overall wellbeing and the most accessible. It’s also a way to spark your creativity!
Even if you just start with 3-5 minutes a day its a huge improvement from nothing. And EVERYTHING is about progress. If you strive to be just slightly better than yesterday or last week you’re killin it! Imagine where you can be in a year if you apply this attitude everyday.
3. Get physical exercise daily
This might sound extreme, but is it really? Let’s face it, you’re not gonna get away without physical activity on a regular basis if you want to live a long and healthy life. Our bodies are made to be moving around EVERYDAY, not sit still in front of a computer. So make physical activity (in any form) a routine just like you’re brushing your teeth everyday. You wouldn’t skip that for a week or even for a day right? Because you know what happens if you do. It’s the same thing with exercise and once you look at physical activity this way it won’t even be an issue anymore and you will experience tremendous benefits. Not only on your physical health but your mental health will shoot through the roof!
4. Do intermittent fasting
The hype of intermittent fasting is real and for good reasons! It helps heal your body like nothing else. Intermittent fasting have huge health benefits for your body because it reduces inflammation which in turn decreases the risk of diseases and other health conditions. It’s also a super effective way to loose weight if that’s your main goal.
The concept is that you eat within a restricted time period and fast the rest of the time between 12-36 hours. There are many different ways to set this up but one popular method is 16:8, where you eat during an 8 hour window and fast for the other 16 hours. That could mean that you have dinner at 8pm and don’t eat again until lunch the day after. You need to figure out what works the best for you and your schedule.
It may sound really hard to skip breakfast and not eat until lunch but It’s not that difficult once you get used to it, our bodies are made to adapt. I’m a great example of this. The only reason I would want to go to bed before was so I could wake up and have breakfast, it was my favorite meal of the day. Now lunch is instead!
5. Supplement with collagen
This is a very easy hack but oh so important. Everybody needs collagen because besides water, collagen is one of the dominating substances in our body and almost our whole structure are built up of it like our skin, tendons and bones. As we age our bodies own production of collagen decreases, this is a main reason we get wrinkles and stiff and tender joints as we age. By supplementing with collagen we can stay flexible and avoid health issues because of decreased mobility in our joints and keep our skin looking young and hair and nails strong. It’s your best fountain of youth!
Don't get bummed out if you feel that this is impossible to stick to everyday. Always remember this, you are your routines not your exceptions. If you make these your routines you don’t have to worry about making exceptions, as long as you don’t make the exceptions your new routine :)
